Biography

Pink Floyd is the premier space rock band. While mostly known for their grandiose concept albums of the 1970s (including The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall), Pink Floyd formed during the '60s as a psychedelic group under the leadership of guitarist Syd Barrett. 1967's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was their only record with Barrett onboard, however, as his mental instability eventually resulted in a lineup switch. With Roger Waters serving as the band's driving force until the '80s, Pink Floyd steadily became one of the biggest-selling rock acts of all time. ~ Richie Unterberger
