Durable, majestic U.K. progressive rock band who released a spate of canonical records in the 1970s & '80s.
Camel never achieved the mass popularity of fellow British progressive rock bands like the Alan Parsons Project, but they cultivated a dedicated cult following. Over the course of their career, Camel experienced numerous changes, but throughout the years, Andrew Latimer remained the leader of the band. Following their 1973 self-titled debut and the following year's Mirage, [roviLink="MN0000943268"]Camel's breakthrough came with 1975's The Snow Goose, which climbed into the British Top 30. The band's popularity declined, but they released albums for well over 20 years, including 1976's Moonmadness, which peaked on the U.S. chart at number 118. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
