The Moody Blues

Lengthy career has produced some classic material, moving from raucous R&B to prog artistry to symphonic pop rock.

Biography

Although they're best known today for their lush, lyrically and musically profound psychedelic-era albums, the Moody Blues started out as one of the better R&B-based combos of the British Invasion. That all changed with the release of 1967's Days of Future Passed, a landmark collection of rock songs set within an orchestral framework that boasted the hits [roviLink="MC"]"Nights in White Satin" and [roviLink="MC"]"Tuesday Afternoon." Subsequent records further established the English group as one of the most successful acts of the '60s and '70s. Though their success tapered off in later years, their catalog continues to be among the best-selling parts of the Polygram library. ~ Bruce Eder
