AC/DC

Whether fronted by Bon Scott or Brian Johnson, AC/DC were Australian purveyors of rock & roll at its more primal and brutal, thanks to the powerful riffs of the Young brothers.

Biography

AC/DC's mammoth power chord roar became one of the most influential hard rock sounds of the '70s. In a way, their music was a reaction against the pompous art rock and lumbering arena rock of the time; no matter how huge and bludgeoning their guitar chords were, there was a clear sense of space and restraint. AC/DC's train was derailed when singer Bon Scott died in 1980. The band replaced him and recorded their best-selling album, Back in Black, which sold over ten million copies in the U.S. alone. For the next few years, AC/DC was one of the largest rock bands in the world. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
