Biography

At the height of mid-90s Britpop mania, the mostly-female Elastica stole some thunder from acts like Oasis and Blur by breaking sales records and making considerable inroads into American radio. The brainchild of former Suede co-founder and guitarist Justine Frischmann, Elastica turned to art punk like Wire and the Stranglers for inspiration, but with a propensity for catchy pop that never characterized those bands. Despite critical rumbles that they swiped too literally from both acts, Elastica eventually found massive success on both sides of the Atlantic. A six-year silence fell before the release of 2000's THE MENACE, followed by the band’s dissolution.
