Adam Ant

Charismatic, enigmatic glam-punk singer continued his 1980s reign after disbanding Adam & the Ants.

Biography

After an initially checkered, then immensely successful, career leading Adam And The Ants, Stuart Goddard (aka Adam Ant) went solo in early 1982, and launched himself with the chart-topping "Goody Two Shoes." Phil Collins was recruited as producer and the pantomime-influenced "Puss In Boots" duly made the U.K. Top 5. Alas, success was only temporary, and by the end of 1983, he had been usurped by new acts such as Duran Duran, Culture Club, and Wham! He subsequently pursued an acting career but made a surprise chart comeback (number 13) in 1990 with "Room At The Top." After a series of distressing incidents, Ant was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in the late '90s.
