Iggy Pop

The "Godfather Of Punk" began shocking in the late-1960s, influenced and (phenomenally) outlasted practically every punk movement.

Biography

Every single punk band, past and present, has either knowingly or unknowingly borrowed a thing or two from Iggy Pop and his late-'60s/early-'70s band, the Stooges. Although the band's self-titled debut, Funhouse, and Raw Power sold poorly, they have become rock classics and can be pointed to as the beginning of what would become known as punk rock. Pop's lengthy solo career was uneven, highlighted by 1977's The Idiot and Lust for Life (both produced and co-written by David Bowie), as well as hits like 1986's [roviLink="MC"]"Real Wild Child" and 1990's [roviLink="MC"]"Candy." An early-2000s Stooges reunion, culminating in 2007's The Weirdness, only enhanced his legacy. ~ Greg Prato
