Oleta Adams

Contemporary singer comfortable with gospel, R&B, jazz, and rock styles.

Biography

Although singer Oleta Adams comes from a gospel background, she is comfortable in styles as diverse as R&B, jazz, and rock. Adams struggled as a musician in Los Angeles and St. Louis before being discovered by the English band Tears for Fears, who invited her to sing on their 1989 album THE SEEDS OF LOVE. Adams’s solo album, CIRCLE OF ONE, appeared in 1990 to critical acclaim, and she also contributed to the Elton John/Bennie Taupin tribute album TWO ROOMS, which spawned a hit with her version of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” The solo efforts EVOLUTION and MOVING ON were issued in ’93 and ’95 respectively, followed by a gospel album and the holiday release CHRISTMAS TIME WITH OLETA.
