Biography

Contemporary gospel duo Mary Mary are comprised of sisters Erica and Tina Atkins. The girls' parents were gospel singers, and Erica and Tina performed in a local church choir before joining several traveling gospel shows, providing backup vocals to R&B acts, and contributing songs to the soundtracks of Dr. Doolittle and Prince of Egypt. Now seasoned performers and songwriters, Mary Mary signed with Columbia Records and released their debut single, [roviLink="MC"]"Shackles (Praise You)." Thankful followed in May 2000, offering a young, hip version of gospel that appealed to Christian audiences and the general public. Two years later, the duo released Incredible, the bulk of which the sisters wrote themselves. ~ William Ruhlmann
