Part good ol' boy, part rockabilly rebel, his young, tragic end hardly obscures his role near head of the rock table.
Buddy Holly was unique, his legendary status and his impact on popular music all the more extraordinary for having been achieved in barely 18 months. Best known for the hits [roviLink="MC"]"Everyday," [roviLink="MC"]"That'll Be the Day," and [roviLink="MC"]"Peggy Sue," as well as being the first recording artist to use overdubbing and double-tracking in the studio, Holly achieved major rock & roll stardom, but his importance transcends any sales figures or even the particulars of any one song (or group of songs) that he wrote or recorded. Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "Big Bopper" Richardson were killed in a plane crash on February 3, 1959. He was 22. ~ Bruce Eder
