Ben E. King

Ghostly solo singer (and one-time Drifters head man) scored some major hits, most memorably "Stand By Me."

Biography

As lead singer with the Drifters in the late 1950s and 1960s, Ben E. King was the voice behind many of that group's biggest hits. Going solo in 1960, he scored several more times (most notably with the classic "Stand By Me") by matching his slightly raspy, stone-cold soulful voice with lush, string-laden production.
