Biography

A Brazilian songwriter and bossa nova vocalist, Bebel Gilberto has recorded with such world-famous artists as Kenny G, David Byrne, the Thievery Corporation, and João Gilberto. Her musical education started early, and Gilberto recorded with her mother and performed at New York's legendary Carnegie Hall before she had even turned ten years old. Although Gilberto became a solo performer in the 1980s, she also enjoyed a successful songwriting career, co-writing several international hits (including "Technova" that mixed bossa nova influences with modern dance music. Her 2000 album, Tanto Tempo, earned two Latin Grammy Nominations for Best New Artist and Best Música Popular Brasileira Album. ~ Alvaro Neder
