For over 40 years this singer has been a hugely popular star in her native Brazil.
Maria Bethania may not be as famous as her younger brother, Caetano Veloso, but she is one of the great female singers in Brazilian music, with a deep, velvety voice that reveals an alluring, mysterious character. Emerging during the turbulent late 1960s, Bethania initially avoided the spotlight, but her interpretations of material by Chico Buarque, Roberto Carlos, and others eventually gained her a legion of fans.
