The Georgia quintet Collective Soul joined such groups as Live, Bush, and Candlebox in developing the post-grunge genre, which turned the cacophony of bands like Mudhoney and the Melvins into radio-friendly hard rock. After rising to popularity with their debut album, [roviLink="MW"]Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, Collective Soul enjoyed a number of hit singles throughout the decade, including "Shine," "The World I Know," and "December." As the nu-metal scene increased in popularity and threatened Collective Soul's audience, the band began to experiment with such different genres as dance-pop.
