Proto-punk in spirit, folky in instrumentation, Kevin Coyne’s sweetly eccentric and touching songs blended humor, hooks, and humanity. After getting his start in the band Siren (a favorite of DJ John Peel), he released his mostly solo-acoustic first album in 1972, and shortly after recruited a band that included future Police guitarist Andy Summers. In the mid-‘80s Coyne moved to Germany where he continued to release uncompromising albums as well as volumes of prose and poetry, and collaborated with such like-minded artists as the Mekons and Dagmar Krause.
