Underrated Irish indie-folk-pop group led by singer/songwriter/actor Glen Hansard (star of ONCE).
Irish fans have devoured the passionate folk-pop stylings of Dublin's the Frames since 1990, witnessing as their music transformed from brash but literate indie-folk to a sparser and more experimental brand of introspection. But U.S. audiences may be more familiar with the outfit's charming lead vocalist Glen Hansard, who has starred in two beloved music-oriented films, 1991's THE COMMITMENTS and the 2006 hit ONCE. The latter film, directed by their former bass player John Carney, featured original music by Hansard and the Frames. The movie's popularity helped to boost the Stateside exposure and sales of the band's 2006 album, THE COST, arguably their most mature and accomplished work. That the album was recorded almost completely live in the studio attests to the long-standing ensemble's remarkable rapport.
