The Pointer Sisters

Biography

The Pointer Sisters regularly scored pop and soul hits throughout the '70s and '80s in a chameleonic variety of styles. Their first successes for Blue Thumb Records blended funky rhythms with a novel nostalgic attitude, leading to their first number one R&B single in 1975, [roviLink="MC"]"How Long (Betcha' Got a Chick on the Side)." In 1979, they covered Bruce Springsteen's [roviLink="MC"]"Fire" and headed in a more contemporary direction on the Planet label; [roviLink="MC"]"He's So Shy," [roviLink="MC"]"Slow Hand," [roviLink="MC"]"Automatic," and [roviLink="MC"]"Jump (For My Love)" were savvy ditties that blazed trails across the R&B and pop charts. ~ Bill Dahl
