1991 Best New Artist Grammy-winning singer-songwriter known for the Adult contemporary staple “Walking in Memphis."
Born in 1959, the Cleveland singer-songwriter and pianist Marc Cohn began his career in his teens, performing in local coffee bars. A move to New York led to success as a session musician, and work with writers including Jimmy Webb and Leiber and Stoller. His 1991 debut album, which also featured a couple of his best-known songs, “Walking in Memphis” and “Silver Thunderbird,” won him a Best New Artist Grammy, and he cemented his position as a popular artist in the adult contemporary vein with two further releases, 1993’s THE RAINY SEASON and 1998’s BURNING THE DAZE.
