Hard rocking U.K. band, ignored in homeland, soared to stardom across the Atlantic, picking up the grunge mantel.
The first--and initially most successful--group to emerge in the wake of Nirvana's crossover to the mainstream, England's Bush took the famed Seattle band's angsty formula, added an even more palatable pop sheen, and took the whole package straight to the bank. Led by hunky singer/guitarist Gavin Rossdale, the band was far more successful in the United States than in their native U.K. They went on to release several albums, before going on hiatus in the early 2000s. Rossdale stayed in the public eye, though, thanks to an acting career, a new band called Institute, and his status as Mr. Gwen Stefani.
