Sardonic British band who came up in the post-punk/new wave era with a sly, '60s-influenced sound.
The Monochrome Set splintered off from post-punk band the B-Sides, which was the original version of Adam & the Ants. Former B-Siders Lester Square and Bid did an about face with their new group, adopting an arch, witty style influenced by '60s Britpop and satirizing the British ruling class. They released a string of influential albums in the first half of the '80s, splitting in '85, but they re-formed in the early '90s, touring and releasing several more records between '91 and '97.
