Gritty, willfully sloppy, '70s-inspired noise rock.
Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema are Royal Trux. Hagerty had played with New York City trash-rock outfit Pussy Galore, and at the end of the 1980s, he hooked up with Herrema to focus more exclusively on a gritty, willfully sloppy, '70s-rock-inspired sound. The Trux released a number of albums on renowned Chicago indie label Drag City, before their glamorously wasted image and sound earned them brief major-label status in the mid-'90s. After their 2000 release POUND FOR POUND, Royal Trux went on hiatus, with Hagerty releasing a solo album. Before long, the duo was back and dirtier than ever, though, with the critically acclaimed HAND OF GLORY in 2002.
