Led by George Michael, Wham! were the biggest English pop duo of the '80s, racking up bouncy hits like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Freedom."
George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley were still in their teens when they started recording as Wham! and their combination of ebullient pop tunes, flashy image, and pinup-boy looks made the British duo one of the biggest pop acts in the world. Their peppy dance-pop sound, exemplified by “Freedom” and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” brought them worldwide fame from 1982 to 1986, but the ride came to an end when Michael opted for a solo career and a more mature sound.
