Freddie Jackson

One of the key figures of R&B's quiet storm era, best known for his hit "You Are My Lady".

Biography

Best known for the sensuous mid-1980s hits "You Are My Lady" and "Rock Me Tonight," Freddie Jackson is one of the key figures of R&B's quiet-storm era, alongside contemporaries like Luther Vandross, Gregory Abbott, and Anita Baker. A Manhattan native, Jackson got his start as a gospel singer before moving into a mellow R&B style heavily influenced by romantic masters like Al Green and Marvin Gaye. His debut album, 1985's ROCK ME TONIGHT, was the first in a string of ballad-oriented R&B chart toppers that lasted through the early 1990s.
