Bonnie "Prince" Billy

One of numerous recording monikers employed by indie country trobadour Will Oldham.

Biography

After stints as Palace, Palace Songs, and Palace Brothers, Will Oldham used the Bonnie "Prince" Billy moniker as the main outlet for his work. Oldham's style remained largely the same, pitting shambling and often sparse music against his creaky, world-weary voice and literate lyrics. With 1998's Black Dissimulation and the following year's I See a Darkness, the Bonnie "Prince" Billy name seemed to stick. Successive releases included 2001's Ease Down the Road, 2003's Master and Everyone, 2004's Bonnie "Prince" Billy Sings Greatest Palace Music (a set of polished re-recordings of songs from his back catalog), 2005's Superwolf, and 2006's The Letting Go. ~ Heather Phares & Stephen Thomas Erlewine
