Third Eye Blind

Late-'90s/early-'00 California-based pop-rock band; deftly bridged sing-along pop hooks and rock edginess.

Biography

Third Eye Blind finagled their way to a prized opening slot for Oasis' April 1996 concert at San Francisco's Civic Auditorium. Following their well-received performance, the band became the subject of a bidding war, eventually won by Elektra/Asylum. Third Eye Blind was released in the spring of 1997, and by the summer, its first single, "Semi-Charmed Life," had become a number one modern rock hit. Spawning several more successful singles, the album broke into the Billboard Top 200 and stayed there for over a year. Blue (1999) and Out of the Vein (2003) followed. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
