Looper

Ex-Belle & Sebastian bassist breaks off for experimental side project.

Biography

Once the bassist for Scottish indie-poppers Belle & Sebastian, Stuart David left the group to form Looper, a minimalist electronic-pop project. His wife Karn aided with visual elements at performances, and David soon formed a full touring and recording band. Sub Pop released Looper’s debut single, “Impossible Things,” in 1998, as well as two subsequent full-lengths, UP A TREE and their arguable high watermark, THE GEOMETRID. David then released the dark, jazzy THE SNARE through Mute in 2002. Disenchanted by the experience, he then made available all future recordings for free through his website, Looperama.com, funding the potentially risky move by commercially licensing his music to video games and films like Cameron Crowe’s VANILLA SKY.
