The French actress/singer carries on the edgy legacy of her famous father.
The daughter of British actress Jane Birkin and French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, Charlotte Gainsbourg has successfully explored both sides of the family trade, drawing accolades for her sophisticated film acting and pleasant and evocative singing. Although she recorded an album (featuring the disturbing novelty duet “Lemon Incest”) of her father’s songs as a young teenager in the mid-1980s, Charlotte Gainsbourg’s music career began in earnest with the release of 5:55 almost 20 years later. Now singing almost entirely in English, the French chanteuse made a favorable impression on critics and fans with tasteful, electro-pop collaborations with the French duo Air.
