Dr. Dog

A quirky, melodic rock outfit that mixes retro ‘60s psychedelia with a freewheeling indie aesthetic.

Biography

Influenced by the psychedelic pop of the Beatles and Kinks, the Americana of the Band, and the lo-fi indie aesthetic of bands like Pavement, Dr. Dog plays quirky, melodic rock that is at once familiar and fresh. Dr. Dog began as a duo (comprising drummer Scott McMicken and guitarist Toby Leaman), who then recorded the lengthy THE PSYCHEDELIC SWAMP, but after adding three other members, the larger band released 2003’s TOOTHBRUSH. Sharing bills with bands like My Morning Jacket, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and the Strokes only increased their profile, and their albums, such as 2005’s EASY BEAT and 2008’s FATE, showed Dr. Dog continuing to develop and refine their sound.
