Sigur Rós

Icelandic ambient post-rockers, whose beautiful, rapturous, dramatic music is inspired by their homeland.

Biography

Named in part after a sister of one of the bandmembers, Reykjavik, Iceland's Sigur Rós ("Victory Rose") was formed in early 1994 while the members were teenagers. The trio's first recorded song earned them a deal with Iceland's Bad Taste label, resulting in their sprawling 1997 debut LP, Von. 1999's string-heavy Ágætis Byrjun ("Good Start") earned the band numerous accolades in their homeland, as well as a critically acclaimed reissue overseas and achieved platinum status in sales, while 2002's raw fourth album, [roviLink="MW"]( ) and more streamlined fifth recording Takk... helped to expand the group's international fan base. ~ Andy Kellman
