Biography

The Brothers Johnson—led by guitarist/singer George and bassist/singer Louis—formed as an R&B band in the late 1960s, touring with such acts as the Supremes, Bobby Womack, and Billy Preston. Their debut album LOOK OUT FOR #1 was released in 1976 and produced by Quincy Jones, who went on to produce the Johnson’s most successful efforts, including 1980’s LIGHT UP THE NIGHT. The outfit’s sleek, sophisticated brand of funk, soul, and disco found chart success with the singles “Get the Funk Out Ma Face,” “Strawberry Letter #23,” and “Stomp!,” among others. Throughout the ‘80s, ‘90s, and 2000s the brothers have released occasional albums, worked as session musicians, and toured widely.
