Canadian electronic musician's one-man project--originally called Manitoba--seemlesly melds electronica touches with psychedlic pop pastiche.
Having already proven himself master of the sublime with his debut as Manitoba, 2000's People Eating Fruit EP, Canadian producer Dan Snaith's subsequent Paul's Birthday EP exposed him even more. After moving to London, he released an excellent second album, Up in Flames, in 2003. One year later, however, Snaith was forced to change his alias after Handsome Dick Manitoba sued for trademark infringement. Renamed Caribou, Snaith's two previous full-lengths were reissued under the new moniker, and he released his first new Caribou album, The Milk of Human Kindness, in 2005. Andorra, a winner of Canada's Polaris Music Prize, followed in 2007, with Swim issued three years later. ~ Kingsley Marshall
