Fusion jazz pianist produced some outstanding work alongside Frank Zappa.
George Duke showed a great deal of promise early in his career as a jazz pianist and keyboardist, later transforming himself into a pop producer. During the '60s and early '70s, he worked with a trio in San Francisco, accompanied and recorded with Jean-Luc Ponty, joined the Don Ellis Orchestra, and spent 1971-1972 with Cannonball Adderley, but his most popular association was with Frank Zappa, for much of 1970 and all of 1973-1975. In 1975, he worked with Sonny Rollins, co-led a group with Billy Cobham, and then formed a funk band (the Clarke-Duke Project) with Stanley Clarke. ~ Scott Yanow
