Founded by singer-songwriter Walter Salas-Humara, the Silos combine folk, country, and roots music with a touch of jangle pop.
The Silos were formed when singer-songwriter Walter Salas-Humara moved from Florida to New York City and met a fellow Floridian, the bassist and guitarist Bob Rupe. Salas-Humara and Rupe also shared a love of country, folk, and roots music. Together (and with the help of some additional musicians) they combined these influences with a touch of jangle pop to create their first effort, 1986’s ABOUT HER STEPS. The critically acclaimed and influential CUBA followed in 1987. The band signed with RCA for their self-titled third album, but Rupe left the band thereafter, leaving his partner to create a new lineup. Salas-Humara continued to tour and record prolifically with the Silos throughout the ‘90s and 2000s.
