While he’s certainly best known for his ultra-catchy theme for GHOSTBUSTERS, which topped the Billboard pop chart for three weeks in 1984 and spawned the catch phrase “who you gonna call,” Ray Parker, Jr. had an illustrious career as a session musician, soul singer, and consistent pop hitmaker. In the late 1970s, a smoothed-out, synth-funk movement emerged led by artists like Rufus and the Commodores; Parker mastered the sound, as well as the art of narratives detailing dysfunctional and obsessive love, both with his group Raydio and as a solo artist. Hits like "The Other Woman," "A Woman Needs Love," and "I Still Can’t Get Over Loving You" hid darker emotions behind a bedroom beat. In 2008, "Ghostbusters" mysteriously reappeared on the British charts.
