Early '90s New York band who combined blues/folk influences with punky edge.
Emerging from the downtown New York underground scene of the early '90s, Railroad Jerk took blues and folk influences and filtered them through a hard-edged, clangorous post-punk sound, with willfully spastic rhythms and Kerouac-on-speed vocals. Led by cartoonist Marcellus Hall, they were the toast of the indie-rock scene for a while, but they called it quits after after their fourth album, Hall and guitarist Dave Varenka going on to form White Hassle.
