Biography

In the tradition of U.K. bands like the Hollies and the Beatles, and fellow U.S. act the Raspberries, the Rubinoos were formed in 1973 by guitarist Tommy "TV" Dunbar and vocalist Jon Rubin. Joined by Royse Ader on bass and Donn Spindit on drums, they signed to Berkeley, California-based Beserkley Records. Their 1977 debut single, a version of Tommy James's "I Think We’re Alone Now," and their self-penned follow-up "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," became cult favorites. Despite their lack of commercial success the group soldiered on, becoming by 1983’s PARTY OF TWO, a duo. After a 16-year hiatus, the group returned to the studio for 1999’s upbeat PALEOPHONIC, and continued to record and tour into the '00s, enjoying renewed popularity, particularly in Japan.
