Formed by the Pittsburgh musician Michael Glabicki in 1988, Rusted Root swiftly evolved into a highly listenable source of eclectic percussion-based world music styles. After independently releasing its debut album in 1990 it signed with Mercury Records, beginning a schedule of intensive touring that would earn it a multitude of hardcore followers throughout the next decade. A slew of successful releases that attracted a spirited, free-thinking audience (as well as many former followers of the Grateful Dead) followed, though its fourth album, 2002’s WELCOME TO MY PARTY, a more commercial effort aimed at attracting an even wider audience, was less ironically well-received.
