Joe Strummer

Clash frontman who went on to lead the Mescaleros.

Biography

After the breakup of the Clash, their frontman Joe Strummer's first solo projects were on soundtracks; he didn't release a proper solo album under his own name until 1989's EARTHQUAKE WEATHER, on which his backing band was the Latino Rockabilly War. For a variety of reasons including label conflicts, it would be 10 years before he assembled another band and put out another solo record. Once he got back into it, though, he worked at a solid clip, recording three albums with The Mescaleros between '99 and 2002, though the third would be released posthumously, as Strummer died of a heart defect in 2002.
