Fear Factory

Los Angeles band pioneering the hybrid nu metal style of the 1990s.

Biography

Though Fear Factory debuted as a standard thrash metal act with 1992's SOUL OF A NEW MACHINE, the Los Angeles-based act led by singer Burton C. Bell quickly became one of the pioneering bands in the rise of what would eventually be termed nu metal. One of the first bands to use both the exaggerated "death growl" vocal style and more conventionally melodic vocals in the same songs, Fear Factory released a string of albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s to increasing sales and critical acclaim. Since 2002, the band has largely been a part-time project.
