Almost never appearing without surgical masks and O.R. scrubs, the Liverpool, U.K., band Clinic hit the scene in the late 1990s with a series of singles that pointed to one of the hippest record collections around. A 2000 disc on Domino Records, INTERNAL WRANGLER, helped the band reach a wider audience, and landed them an opening gig with Radiohead. While some critics accused the band of too brazenly wearing their influences on their sleeves, Clinic's referencing of everything from Can and New Order to Ornette Coleman, the Velvet Underground, and Johnny Cash provided for one of the more distinct sounds in the British and American indie-rock scenes of the early 2000s.
