Unpretentious alternative act led by rock 'n' roll survivor Art Alexakis became one of the '90s most consistent hitmakers.
Though Everclear's Northwestern grunge-punk style was hardly revolutionary when the trio rose to popularity in 1995, their numerous radio singles (including "Santa Monica," "Heroin Girl," "Everything to Everyone," and "Wonderful") and singer Art Alexakis' "us against them" lyrics were taken to heart by bored Gen-X teenagers. Everclear formed in Portland in 1992 and enjoyed a decade's worth of commercial success, with albums like Sparkle and Fade and So Much for the Afterglow -- both released by Capitol Records -- becoming modern rock staples. Alexakis also utilized his newfound success in the political arena, testifying in front of Congress regarding child support laws and campaigning with several presidential tickets. ~ John Bush
