R&B singer, songwriter, producer, and musician [roviLink="MN0000147082"]James Ingram, best known for his smooth R&B and quiet storm ballads, scored a hit with 1990’s number one ballad “I Don’t Have the Heart.”
Born in Akron, Ohio, R&B singer, songwriter, producer, and musician James Ingram came to prominence as a member of the band Revelation Funk in early-1970s Los Angeles, where he also worked as a session musician. Projects with Ray Charles, ex-Motown producer Lamont Dozier and, most notably, Quincy Jones proved pivotal for the artist. Ingram’s participation on Jones’s 1981 album, THE DUDE, earned him a charting single with “Just Once,” and two Grammy awards. Ingram’s solo debut, IT’S YOUR NIGHT, was released in 1983. Ingram’s other solo albums include 1988’s NEVER FELT SO GOOD and 1993’s ALWAYS YOU, but he didn’t score another chart hit until 1990’s #1 smash ballad, “I Don’t Have the Heart.” Ingram is also known for high-profile projects such as co-writing Michael Jackson’s hit “PYT (Pretty Young Thing),” his participation on the 1985 recording “We Are the World,” and his duets with the likes of Michael McDonald, Anita Baker, and Kenny Rogers. His 1987 duet with Linda Ronstadt, “Somewhere Out There,” proved a certified gold chart hit, and received Grammy and Academy Award nominations. In 2006 James Ingram appeared on the reality TV show CELEBRITY DUETS.
