Provocative Latino/Asian comedy duo who shot to superstardom in the 1970s with dazed, blissed-out skits and songs.
The duo of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong released some of the most popular comedy albums of the 1970s and early '80s. Using America's post-hippie malaise as a jumping-off point, the pair both mocked and reveled in marijuana culture, creating a style of stoner humor that required little effort to appreciate, but was nonetheless quite hilarious. The pair milked their schtick for all it was worth, releasing ten albums and starring in eight movies. Marin and Chong went their separate ways in the mid '80s, with both going on to have credible solo acting careers.
