Keith Urban

Sought after '90s session-musician became one of country's biggest superstars by the '00s.

Biography

In 1997, Australian country artist Keith Urban based himself in Nashville. Live shows with his band, the Ranch, featuring his standout guitar playing, led to a record deal with Capitol Nashville. The group's debut album, The Ranch, was released to critical acclaim in 1997, but they soon broke up, and other artists -- including Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks -- called on Urban to play on their albums. Ten years on, Urban was doing to Nashville what he'd done to Tamworth, Australia's country music capital, with a string of successful solo records that included Golden Road, Be Here, and Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing. ~ Ed Nimmervoll
