Johann Sebastian Bach

Biography

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was a German composer of the Baroque period. He was a virtuoso organist who worked most of his life as a Lutheran church musician, and many of his finest works were written for church performances. Bach's music is notable for its intellectual rigor and emotional expressiveness, a combination that makes him one of the most respected and popular composers of all time. He wrote thousands of compositions in many genres, the most famous of which include the Brandenburg Concertos, the Art of the Fugue, the Goldberg Variations, the St. Matthew Passion, and the Mass in B Minor. ~ Stephen Eddins
