This pair of DJs catapulted to stardom in the mid-'90s, helping to popularize the "Big Beat" sound.
The Chemical Brothers united such varying influences as Public Enemy, Cabaret Voltaire, and My Bloody Valentine to create a dance-rock-rap fusion that became the first arena-sized sound in the electronica movement. British DJs Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons first came together in 1989 under the name Dust Brothers, and their profile rose on the strength of their nightclub residencies and homemade albums. After rechristening themselves the Chemical Brothers in 1995 and scoring a number one hit with [roviLink="MC"]"Setting Sun" (a single featuring the vocals of Oasis' Noel Gallagher), the Chemical Brothers began headlining international shows and earning Grammy Awards for their pioneering work. ~ John Bush
