Atreyu's mix of metal weight, punk rage, and rock accessibility helped define the sound of a new youth movement.
Once upon a time, disgruntled teens could choose to listen to either punk or metal. Then along came emo and hardcore; then screamo and metalcore. When the dust from this epic genre fracas cleared in the early 2000s, the Orange County-based band Atreyu emerged as one of the victors. Call it what you will, but the band's mix of metal weight, punk rage, and rock accessibility has proven quite popular, and helped define the sound of a new youth movement. The band released three albums with famed hardcore label Victory before moving to Hollywood Records--following a now somewhat famous spat with Victory--for 2007's LEAD SAILS PAPER ANCHOR.
