Feted by critics of the time, beloved by later traditionalists, the country duo had an impressive run until one half's untimely death.
With great songs and beautiful, heartrending voices, the Louvin Brothers had everything going for them but hit records. From the early '50s through the mid-'60s, the Louvins released a steady stream of first-rate material but somehow never managed to climb into country's highest stratum of stars. Today their records are justly revered by traditionalists and alt.country fans alike. Ira Louvin was killed in a car accident in 1965; however, Charlie Louvin kept the family tradition going on and off into the 2000s.
