Swiss harpist's instrumental concoctions balance between folk and new age.
Andreas Vollenweider's first few albums of transcendent harp instrumentals were released in the early 1980s to more than modest acclaim, but he really broke through in 1985, after releasing WHITE WINDS (SEEKER'S JOURNEY). This album landed quickly on the Billboard charts and established Vollenweider as a big-ticket act amongst New Age music fans as well as classical and jazz aficionados. His follow-up album DOWN TO THE MOON won him a Grammy Award, and subsequent recordings have seen him incorporating symphonic music, vocals, and various traditional folk sounds to his accomplished harp compositions.
