Terence Blanchard

Trumpeter Terence Blanchard is film director Spike Lee’s resident composer and an accomplished solo jazz artist in his own right.

Biography

An accomplished jazz trumpet player, Terence Blanchard is perhaps best known for his dynamic and vibrant film scores for director Spike Lee. Before stepping out on his own, Blanchard played with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, honing a hard-bop aesthetic that he would bring to his more expansive cinematic work. Highlights of Blanchard’s impressive and prolific career include the Herbie Hancock-produced FLOW, and scores for Lee’s MALCOLM X and INSIDE MAN, along with the latter's 2006 documentary on Hurricane Katrina-hit New Orleans, which is also Blanchard's hometown.
